I was married at Bristol Zoo and designed a whole range of stationery, from invites and menus to t-shirts for some of the guests. Early in the wedding planning, a meerkat became the mascot of the wedding (just before Compare the Meerkat was ingrained in our psyches). Like the adverts, one meerkat become several meerkats, until by the end we had a whole collection of animals.
On the morning of the wedding, the managing directors at Bristol Zoo came down to see the rooms set out with the stationery and additional elements – including 2 six foot cardboard cut outs of the (meerkat) bride & groom. Most people who get married at the zoo opt for a vaguely animal themed occasion. The directors commented that were they to offer a themed wedding package, this was exactly what they would have chosen.
